It Started on the Appalachian Trail
Three friends, 2,190 miles, and one shared frustration: finding reliable gear information was harder than the hike itself. We spent more time researching equipment than planning our route, sifting through biased reviews and marketing fluff that didn’t match reality on the trail.
Halfway through our thru-hike, soaked in a leaky tent we’d bought based on five-star reviews, we made a pact. We’d create the resource we wished we had—a place where real outdoor enthusiasts could find honest, tested gear recommendations without the BS.
Five years later, The Gear Trail has grown from a small blog into a trusted community of 50,000+ outdoor lovers. We’ve tested over 2,500 products, logged more than 100,000 trail miles, and maintained our founding principle: only recommend gear we’d trust with our own adventures.
